Chatroulette has become known for a lot of weird people it attracts (and a lot of those on the perv side), but here is a new level of bizarro: Osama bin Laden is there as well. Look here to meet the dead al-Qaeda evil overlord. Man and there we were, thinking we had seen the last of you when President Obama announced that you had been killed. And looking at the reactions people show when chatrouletted with your spoof alter ego online, it is sort of a relief to know that the real thing is gone. And fun to watch the chat partners. Of course, first you’re shocked and while most of the guys laugh, some of the dumbwits (superdumb) start yelling at you as if you were for real. As if. But thanks for a great idea. Whatever issues people had – and to be afraid of the real thing is of course only natural, just as to be some dumb looser is natural in some parts of the US, I have to say – that Chatroulette prank lets everybody work through them. Thank you, fake Osama!
It’s not always the big guys who win. That goes for publicity, too: the big companies are not the only ones to generate a lot of interest, or even the most interest. Even Aple had to learn that lesson in 2010 when Chatroulette was the website with the most hits. No one knows better than Steve Jobs the value of hype-based publicity, i.e. publicity you get for free, because people are just crazy about your products. Early every year a pilgrimage of Apple disciples takes place to California when Apple unveils its newest product. Each next one as sleek and smart as the one before. In 2010 that was the IPAD – supposed to build on the huge success of the Iphone. With all that, it would have been expected that the Ipad site would be the hottest thing in 2010. But no. along comes a 17-year-old Russian high school kid and according to Google Zeitgeist upstages Apple with his website Chatroulette. Isn’t that funny? Ok, it was a close race, but then if you look at the marketing department of Apple and the mord-of-mouth for Chatroulette, well we rename Andrej Ternovskij David 2010!
